Stainless Steel Applications for Architecture
| Unlike Galvanised Steel finishes, Stainless Steel products have been
increasingly being used and specified for both spectacular and practical
exterior architectural applications which have very little or no
maintenance. However, in some instances, architects and designers do not
know enough about stainless steel products and the vast range available.
There is a need to make sure that the correct stainless steel grade and
product is selected especially when exposed to coastal areas which have
corroding sea salts (chlorides) and/or higher levels of urban or
industrial pollution. |
 |
 |
Molybdenum-containing Type 316 or more corrosion resistant
molybdenum-containing stainless steels should be specified in these
applications. Molybdenum improves pitting and crevice corrosion
resistance, which is particularly helpful in preventing salt and
corrosive pollution damage. |
